How long does an EPC last for?

Domestic EPC

The new government has now suspended the Home Information Pack which did include an EPC for potential buyers.The EPC in the HIP was valid for 3 years but this has now changed to a standalone EPC for a home that's put up for sale is now valid for 10 years.

Landlords EPC

If you are a landlord, you'll need to make an EPC available to prospective tenants the first time you let a home after 1 October 2008. An EPC is only required for a property which is self-contained, and is valid for 10 years.

An EPC isn't required when a tenant rents a room and shares facilities.

Commercial EPC

From October 2008, owners of all commercial buildings also have to provide an EPC when they buy, sell or let commercial premises these are also valid for 10 years.

Display Energy Certificate(DEC)

A Display Energy Certificate is valid for 12 months.

The accompanying Advisory Report is valid for seven years.
